Facebook lately announced updates on its community policy. One of the updates is that, page owners and developers can no longer ask for page likes before users enter a contest on a special Facebook application. That means no more Like-Gating users. As Facebook put it: “You must not incentivize people to use social plugins or to like a Page. This includes offering rewards, or gating apps or app content based on whether or not a person has liked a Page. It remains acceptable to incentivize people to login to your app, check-in at a place or enter a promotion on your app’s Page.”
With the update Social Media Managers and Developers can no longer set a “Like or page” pre-request while offering a special content via third party applications. Social Media Experts can still encourage their target audience to use a specific application or like their page to expand their online community. The update will be valid as of November 2014.
